OUR HISTORY
Welcome to Pleasantville Signs
and its world of sign making and graphic design. Pleasantville Signs is owned and operated by Nadine Sarty and started as an at home business in 1999. During the next few years, small jobs were done and much was learned about the signage business. The company grew slowly and gained strength in marketing and promotions. She used every contact she had, in every field she dabbled in, and more, to get the company name out to the public.
In the summer of 2001, Pleasantville Signs got its first real 'road sign' and tripled its business in the next two years. In May of 2003, the Pleasantville Signs 'Company Car' was introduced to her area. Every May since then, the local public looks for the dramatic changes her Hyundai Sonata would go through. It was even featured in Signcraft Magazine. She quickly learned that this was what her company was known for. Ever-changing. Always different.
In 2004, Pleasantville Signs also went through the digital age. Nadine moved out the primitive, table top 24" Roland plotter/cutter and moved in a 30" Mimaki JVIII digital Imager and 48" Summa cutter/plotter. This was the best move at the best time and has proven itself time and again. Herself and her staff have attended many trade shows through the years and participate in car wrap seminars to educate themselves in the latest products and technologies. They have a lot of fun testing new products and trying new projects. They use some of her customers as guinea pigs but mostly test on personal or company substrates.
In late 2005, she officially became owner/ operator of Pleasantville Signs. Although she sat in the driver's seat for yeas before that, now she knew that its future, and hers, was entirely her responsibility. She is very proud to have an extensive list of corporate clients such as Town of Bridgewater, Municipality of Lunenburg, HRM, Abitibi/ Bowater, CKBW Radio, Bridgewater Police, Exxon, Scotiabank, LIFE and Parks Canada. Along with these, they service restaurants such as Swiss Chalet, Harvey's, Boston Pizza and Dairy Queen. But the most gratifying projects come from the local contractors, the small business owners, like herself, who work 14 hour days just playing catch up.
Their projects are also getting larger in size and difficulty. Years ago they wouldn't have dreamed of doing anything larger than a 4'x8' sign or large truck. But they have graduated to billboards, pylon signs, sign boxes, read a graphs, long haul tractors and trailers and they are excited to tell anyone that they have detailed all three Metro Transit ferries for HRM.
Pleasantville Signs also cares about its community and those who live around them. In April 2008, Nadine and her staff participated in Earth Day, picking up garbage and cleaning up the streets they use everyday. For the past ten years, she also helped her community by becoming a member of Pleasantville & District Fire Dept. as an auxiliary person, for which she was given a Community Service award in 2004. She is very proud to be a part of several charitable organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, United Way, Salvation Army, CKBW Food Bank drives, Community Wheels and they help as much as they can to schools and fire departments. In March 2008, Nadine opened her shop, her home and her heart to a project for 12 year old murder victim, Karissa Boudreau. Using the strength and memory of her Mom, she organized an event where more than 700 stuffed bears from Karissa's makeshift Memorial site were sent to children in traumatic situations all over the world. More than that, she picked up every bear, every flower and every note that was included in this 60' long 4' deep mound of love. On April 4 ,2008 Nadine was given CTV Maritimer of the Week for the role she played in Project Karissa's Bears.
In fall 2008, Pleasantville Signs was approached by a friend who had plans to purchase a local hockey team, asked Nadine about her future goals and the possibility of participating as a committee member. In January 2009 Ken Petrie became official owner of the CIBC Wood Gundy Junior A Lumberjacks and Nadine sits at a table with more than 30 volunteers. The Lumberjacks now have team photos and hundreds of play shots, banners, programs, posters, license plates, magnets, pucks, clothing & hats, and the advertising they deserve. The Lumberjacks are now playing home games with more than five times the fan base as before. Nadine also attends some of the team's social functions such as visits to schools and fan signings.
The year 2009 marks the 10th year Pleasantville Signs has been in business. Every day something new is learned, a customer is met, a friend is made. It's always something different. It's always a fun ride and an exciting day. This summer 2009, look for Nadine's new company truck in the parking lot of a PBR show, on the runway of a auto show, or satisfying her need for speed on the track at the Greenfield Dragway. Wherever you see her, stop and say hello. You'll be glad you did.
